Kenan Arts Council

The longest running volunteer group on campus.

Formed in 1970, the Kenan Arts Council provides volunteer service to the Center and helps promote educational, cultural, and recreational activities in the community. Meetings are held in the Taylor Theatre Meeting Room on the second Tuesday of each month, September–November and January–April, at 10 AM.

Kenan Arts Council scholarships

The Kenan Arts Council awards two college scholarships each year to eastern Niagara County high school students pursuing degrees in art, dance, design, theater, or music. Applicants must meet high academic standards (minimum 80% high school average) and be involved in extracurricular and community activities. Applications are distributed through school guidance offices in Barker, Niagara Wheatfield, Royalton-Hartland, Starpoint, Lockport, Newfane, and Wilson, and through the music, theater, and art departments at those schools.

Monthly Arts Council programs

The Kenan Arts Council is the oldest of the Center's volunteer groups. Formed in 1970, it provides volunteer service to Kenan Center and helps promote educational, cultural, and recreational activities in the community. Monthly programs are free and open to the public, starting promptly at 10 AM unless noted otherwise. They run before meetings on the second Tuesday, September through November and January through April, in the Taylor Theater Meeting Room behind the Kenan House at 433 Locust Street. Guest speakers and special programs are part of each meeting.

The Kenan Herb Club

The Friends of the Kenan Herb Club was established in 1985. The Club offers programs and activities for people interested in herbal living. Workshops cover culinary use, herbal gift making, and more. Members also tour gardens, businesses, and educational sites with herbal products. Club members run the Annual Spring Herb Plant Sale during 100 American Craftsmen at the Kenan Arena, Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM. They also plant and maintain the Center's herb garden. Membership is $15 per year and includes The Herbal Herald newsletter. Call the Kenan Center Business Office at 716-433-2617.

Kenan Quilters' Guild

Preserve and promote the art of quilting

The Kenan Quilters' Guild preserves and promotes the art of quilting by sharing ideas, expertise, and fellowship. The Guild supports Kenan Center with an annual Opportunity Quilt, a biennial Quilt Show in the Kenan Arena, and other quilt programs in the community. Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Taylor Theater Meeting Room and include a program. Non-members are welcome. Saturday workshops run 9 am to 3 pm, with members given first consideration. Membership is $25 per year and includes a Guild newsletter.
