CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Aquarium of Niagara: Animal Tales with the Aquarium of Niagara: Aquarium of Niagara will bring its outreach classroom to the Kenan Center! An educator will read a children’s story about an animal of choice, then either meet the same live animal or interact with biofacts focused on the same animal. A related craft will follow. A different animal will be featured each week.

Cooking with Jessica Dittly from Terrior General Store: Let’s learn to cook from our farmers! Each week Jessica will teach kids how to cook up something delicious using produce from the Lockport Community Farmers Market. She will be showing kids how to make bread, fresh pasta and sauce, jam, pickles, and desserts! Kids will also develop their own cookbooks and make shopping lists for upcoming farmer’s markets.

Janna Willoughby-LohrPapercraft Miracles: Learn the craft of handmade paper art with Janna Willoughby-Lohr from Papercraft Miracles.

Amazin Grace Dance: Amazin Grace will provide introductions to different styles of dancing. Interactive games will be incorporated to ensure that everyone has fun while they learn the art of dance!

Kenan Quilters: Join the Kenan Quilters’ Guild in recreating crafts of the past 50 years with fabric, yarn, and paper. Think parachutes, potholders, and puppets – and those are just the “P”s!

WAHI Studio: WAHI joins KidQuest to bring adventure into different art mediums. There is history, science, and exploration in our activities, and the act of play that brings it all together. We will be designing knight shields, making waterfalls from popped paint-filled balloons, chalking beyond the driveway like artists at festivals do, dot art like native Australians, spinning watercolors, and using stamps too. We can’t wait to create with you!

Shadow Puppetry: Come join Kuumba-Nia as they help to develop productive citizens through the art of puppetry and drama. Learn about the art of puppetry and shadow puppetry with them and experience creativity with a purpose.

Challenger Learning Center: The Challenger Learning Center will lead kids on a journey of science and space exploration. Kids will learn through games, crafts, and Challenger’s famous traveling Planetarium!

Imagine that Art: Kids will learn a variety of fun ways to paint including painting ceramics, bubble painting, watercolor, abstract creations, imaginary landscapes and more! We will be exploring color mixing & techniques throughout the fun projects as well!

Playworks: Playworks believes that playtime is kids’ time! Playworks uses skills, strategies, and diverse experiences to develop and engage kids in a safe and inclusive play environment. Come join Coach Tyler, where kids will experience the social, emotional, and physical benefits of play through teamwork and collaborative games. Playworks introduces fun variations on traditional playground games to make play inclusive for everyone.

Fundamentals of Theatre Arts:

In this class, students will explore the fundamentals of theatre through games and exercises created to give beginner performers the tools to thrive on stage and in life! Students will learn how movement, body language, listening, expression and use of space can help to tell a story. They will also explore what makes characters unique and how to create compelling characters onstage through character development, articulation, projection, and voice variation. Students will work together, build trust, and leave with confidence!
