The Kenan House Gallery features local and regional fine art exhibits with a strong focus on Western New York artists, located in the Kenan House, 433 Locust Street, Lockport. An active exhibition space since 1966 when it featured the works of Charles Burchfield, the Kenan Center House Gallery averages eight exhibits annually of local and regional artists. Committed to fostering artistic expression in young people, the gallery also includes a high school photo exhibit on its calendar each year.
CHANGE IN HOURS STARTING IN APRIL 2020: Before Labor Day: Mon.-Fri. 12-5pm; Sundays 2-4pm. After Labor Day: Mon.-Fri. 12-5pm; Saturdays & Sundays 2-4pm. The Gallery may be closed for major holidays and private functions. If traveling, call (716) 433-2617, Monday-Friday before 5 pm, to confirm that the Gallery is open the day you wish to visit. Extraordinary Forms V Clay Invitational, also on view Ceramic Works from the Gerald Mead Collection.
Extraordinary Forms V Clay Invitational include works by Mitchell Messina (Nazareth College), Lori Mills (SUNY Brockport), Hide Sadohara (SUNY Fredonia), Colleen Toledano and Robert Wood (SUNY Buffalo State).
Also on view will be a companion exhibition titled “Ceramics from the Gerald Mead Collection.”
Through the combined histories of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Nazareth College and the SUNY Colleges in Alfred, Buffalo, Brockport, Geneseo, Fredonia and Sanborn, ceramic artists associated with this region have had an enduring presence. This survey exhibition, selected from the extensive collection of Gerald Mead, a noted Buffalo art collector and member of the Kenan Center art committee, consists of ceramic works by current and former ceramic educators at colleges and universities in Western New York.
The artisans included in the exhibition are Marvin Bjurlin, Val Cushing, Julia Galloway, Andrea Gill, John Gill, Tony Hepburn, Wayne Higby, Richard Hirsch, Bryan Hopkins, Gail McCarthy, Lori Mills, Peter Pincus, Ted Randall, Mary Roehm, Carl Shanahan, Neil Tetkowski, Frans Wildenhain, and Robert Wood.
